While we have good reason to believe Amy is really an angel- of some sort, anyway- we’ve had little in the way of actual mystical occurrences to back this up. This might change with what Amy pulls off tonight. (Though she still can’t stop that same recap of the pilot from airing before every episode.)
Allison has been working for three years at Fuller Dermatology (We finally know her last name!). The celebratory dinner is, of course, the perfect opportunity for Amy to cut in, with news of her own gift, which has not yet arrived, and is, for now, just a piece of paper with a tracking number.
Through the dinner, we also learn that Brad has an ex-wife. An ex-wife he booked a romantic vacation with a year ago, before their divorce. Now, he’s looking for someone to go on the trip with, kissing towel swans and all. Ignoring him for the time being, Allison and Marv head into the office, with her trying to get him to open up to some new ideas. Cases in point: a new computer system and not having two of their employees flirt shamelessly with each other all the time. (I totally ship them, though.)
Marv basically dismisses his daughter’s ideas by saying he’ll “think about” them, and, for once, I’m totally on board with Amy calling this out. I am not, however, on board with her putting herself into the role of fixing said computer system while saying there’s “literally no downside.” Amy and Marv end up bickering over the matter. In the end, Amy takes over the office for a week while Marv reluctantly agrees to go on Brad’s trip with him. Sure enough, the towel swans are there.
Allison immediately sets about making changes, including a sexual harassment seminar (possibly a good idea) and basically leaving Amy to her own devices (not a good idea at all). She seems pretty confident with herself at first, even if the employees think the lawyer for the seminar is a stripper. Meanwhile, dad and brother run into awkward situation after awkward situation. And then Marv is called back just in time for disaster- Amy has gotten every single Fuller patient slotted for the same appointment.
He comes back to an office full of people, but, while Allison frantically apologizes, he also realizes that he should have given her more power has his partner before now. Once the crisis is handled, he suggests they change the name of their practice to “Fuller & Fuller Dermatology”. Only then does the gift Amy ordered finally come in- a mug with the new practice name already printed on it. Now that one is hard to explain, Allison. At some point, you’re going to have to stop making excuses.
