Some believe fate is left to random happenstance. Others think our lives are already written in the stars. I suppose it shouldn’t be a surprise that this sort of sitcom takes a side in this philosophical debate. Though fate’s probably not so much written in the stars as maybe some kind of angel registry.
Amy meets up with a fellow angel who probably shouldn’t be allowed to have women as his…humans? Clients? Anyway. She tells him that she’s continuing in her quest to loosen Alison up- and reveals that the progress she’s been making has crossed a lot of lines for her field of work.
Allison and her dad are planning an engagement party for people who I’m guessing are family friends, because otherwise I can’t figure out how they relate to anyone on the show. The bride-to-be joins Amy in pressing into Allison’s relationship status. Later, Amy takes Allison roller skating. They “randomly” run into a mass pillow fight in the park, and for once, it’s Allison who suggests they join in on the spontaneous fun- without any prompting, even.
To her credit, it’s a good idea- even if Amy nearly kills someone and the police break up the fun. And Allison’s behavior gets even more out of line with her past behavior- she slips away from Amy meets a guy named Darren who she runs off with. Amy finds herself worried and checks in with Brad and Marv. But this is still Allison we’re talking about, so she shows up moments later. But Amy isn’t pleased by the news of the date. She says Darren is Amy’s soulmate and she wasn’t supposed to meet him yet.
This actually seems to be quite the problem, though that may just be because Amy doesn’t want Alison to hang out with someone other than her. Or not. When she meets up with her angel friend, she reveals that if Alison and Darren get together too soon, their relationship won’t last. Unfortunately, she’s too late to stop the fate-sealing kiss. And so (after an empty promise not to meddle), she breaks them up. Temporarily, though. Maybe. Allison actually has 17 potential soulmates.
Once again, Brad and Marv get their own storyline. It actually winds up being rather sweet, with Marv finally asking another woman out on a date again, and Brad being uncomfortable with the matter. Still, I wasn’t much a fun of the awkward lean-in. I like them and all, but all the whole fragile masculinity thing over the fact that Brad likes making origami flowers? Didn’t really float my boat. But. I do like where this is headed. Allison and her friend could be step-sisters!
